Canadians Applying for TN Visa

I learned that the process is much easier to apply for a visa for spouses and children of TN visa holders. I went back to Toronto to acompany my partner to get her visa. I thought we had to go through the border office but we only had to show our paperwork at the U.S. Port of Entry. The line was long so we are glad we left from downtown Toronto at 8am to reach the Toronto Pearson airport around 9am. We took the UP express train from Union station.

The paperwork that you need to bring with you include:

- TN visa holder passport
- Passport for your spouse/children
- Marriage certificate
- Proof of current employment (2-3 latest pay stubs)
- Proof of Canadian citizenship

The border officer only looked at the marriage certificate and my passport which showed the TN visa stamp. But it was good to come prepared. Just a note for next time to save you time and a little bit of money perhaps. We didn’t have to go through Pearson for my spouse. We could’ve have gone through Porter at the Toronto Insland to shorten our travel time from home to the airport. Applying to TN visa, however, requires us to do this at Pearson because they do not have an office in Toronto Island airport.
